Weeks four and five have whizzed by for our Year 1 Kingfishers! The children ended week four in our spots, pyjamas and Pudsey-related outfits after talking all about charity, those less fortunate than us and the work Children in Need does.

Mrs Bennett has been so proud to see some fantastic presentation in her pupils' work books with plenty of neat underlined titles.

In science, Year 1 have been learning all about the parts of a flowering plant. The class did some excellent labelling in their workbooks and played some plant-related games to help embed new knowledge.

Parents: We'd love for parents to ask their children if they can show them the roots, leaves, flowers, petals and stem of a plant.

In week five, our wonderful children had a busy week full of learning, fun and friendship! In history lessons, they have been learning all about timelines and how people change from babies through to adulthood. This will lead into the next part of the topic where the class will look at childhoods of the past.

Parents: Do you have any stories to share with your child about your childhood about games you played? Or maybe you have kept some treasured toys that you could talk about?

Our children's beautiful voices have been filling the air as they rehearse with their Year 2 friends for our Christmas show: ‘The Big Little Nativity’. Mrs Bennett is so impressed with how well those with speaking parts have learned their lines and the confidence of each and every child with their Makaton signs and songs in the performance. We have a few stars in the making!

Year 1 began this week by giving an assembly to promote disability awareness. The children helped Mrs Bennett to highlight some important messages for our Meadowdale family and they really impressed everyone with their rendition of ‘This Little Light of Mine’ complete with sign language.

This week also saw the return of Brian the Elf. There was excitement in the air when the class discovered that Brian had been busy overnight and left our class a Christmas tree! The children were super excited and very curious when they found a note left by Brian. He ran out of time at midnight and was frozen in our classroom for the day! In his note, he asked that Mrs Bennett choose a lucky Kingfisher to add the final touch to our class tree and place the golden star on top.

We can't wait for more festive fun and learning next week.
