Our Year 5 Merlins have been exploring texts with the theme of war and remembrance this week in our reading lessons. The class really enjoyed ‘The Emergency Zoo’ where they learned about how animals were treated during the war.
With Remembrance Day approaching, the theme continued in Year 5's art lessons where the group made wreaths ready to take to the remembrance service this week in Bedlington. We'd like to give a special mention to two of our children who volunteered to read a verse from the poem Flanders Field, at the service.
In science lessons, our Merlins looked at the moon, sun and Earth and their relative sizes. Our children were shocked to learn that the sun is 93,000,000 miles away from Earth!
In history lessons, the group's Dynamic Dynasties topic continued and pupils studied the people of the Shang Dynasty who were successful warriors. We're very impressed with how neatly Year 5 presented their work!
